Emergency Medicine
The Emergency Department
personnel are prepared to handle your emergency medical needs 24 hours a day.
Our full-time ED physicians are all Board Certified or Board Prepared in Emergency
Medicine. The 17-bed Emergency Department is complete with state-of-the-art
equipment and specialized rooms for cardiac, trauma, OB/GYN, pediatric, ENT
(ear, nose, and throat), and orthopaedics. On weekends and holidays, patients
with minor illnesses or injuries receive care in the Minor Emergency Care Area
- a more timely and efficient system for treating minor emergencies.
Coming in through the ambulatory or walk-in entrance, a triage nurse greets patients and quickly evaluates their illness or injury and works to expedite care. Patients arriving by ambulance or with an emergency condition are immediately routed to the cardiac or trauma rooms for immediate care.
Our Emergency Department
Chest Pain Unit (CPU) opened in February 1998. Patients with symptoms suggestive
of heart disease are initially evaluated in the Emergency Department, then moved
to the CPU if more observation and testing is needed to be sure their heart
is operating properly. Patients can be observed in the CPU for up to 24 hours.
Most CPU patients see a cardiologist and undergo testing to be sure they have
no significant heart attack risk. If testing indicates a cardiac problem, they
are admitted for further treatment.
