St. Joseph’s selects Hatton for 2 West Unit Manager position

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Sherie Hatton, RN, was recently selected by St. Joseph’s Mercy Health System to manage the 2 West Pediatric-Medical-Surgical Unit of its 309-bed health canter.

Hatton, who has been with St. Joseph’s since the spring of 2004, is a Booneville native who earned her associate degree in nursing from National Park Community College. Prior to being named Unit Manager, she served 2 West as a staff and charge nurse.

“I never really aspired to be in a management position, but we are a tight knit group and 2 West is kind of like our home away from home,” Hatton said. “We all talked about how we wanted the manager to come from inside the unit, and the next thing I know a good number of my co-workers are encouraging me to apply for the position. As I thought about it, I came to the realization that I did know everybody who worked on the unit and I was experienced in pediatrics.

“The confidence co-workers showed in me gave me the courage to step up and pursue the position. I believe it was the right thing to do, and although it can be challenging, it is also very rewarding.”

Hatton and her husband of 22 years, Dale, reside in Mount Ida. They have a 16-year-old son named Alec.

“I started out as a new graduate at St. Joseph’s and I can’t imagine working anywhere else,” Hatton said. “I especially like that it is faith based. Faith is such a big part of the lives of most people, and here at St. Joseph’s you are free to bring it to work with you. That’s a wonderful part of being employed by St. Joseph’s.”

A member of the Sisters of Mercy Health System, St. Joseph’s is a not-for-profit Catholic healthcare organization and three-time recipient of the large-company Gold Award at the Arkansas Governor’s Work-Life Balance Awards ceremony in the spring of 2006, 2007 and 2008.
