Sisters of Mercy
As a member of the Sisters
of Mercy Health System, St. Joseph’s enjoys a rich heritage of service to
the sick and poor. Ours is a mission to meet the changing physical, psychological,
spiritual and social needs of the community through health care. St. Joseph’s
believes each person, patient and employee has value and dignity and is to be
treated with respect, genuine personal concern and compassion. We call these
Mercy Values.
Mother
Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic religious order,
in Ireland in 1831. Her single House of Mercy is now the worldwide institute
of the Religious Sisters of Mercy which operate healthcare facilities in Arkansas
and seven other states in the south central U.S. Through faith-based care, Sisters
of Mercy institutions have established a rich tradition of care giving and community
service. Today three Sisters of Mercy serve the patients of St. Joseph’s right
here in Hot Springs, under the Sisters of Mercy Health System headquartered
in St. Louis, Missouri.
Just as Mother McAuley and her followers sought
out the sick in 19th Century Dublin, St. Joseph’s strives to continually identify
the healthcare needs of the communities it serves and develop progressive and
innovative services and programs that best fulfill those needs.
